Torrential rain in the south of Spain over the past week has forced Officials to alter the playing schedule of The European Tour Qualifying School – Final Stage at the San Roque Club in Cadiz. The main concerns surround the Old Course, which will not be available for tournament play until Monday November 13, meaning the tournament itself will extend for an extra two days, now finishing on Thursday November 16.
From Friday November 3 until Monday November 6, around 44mm of rain fell on the San Roque area with the Old Course suffering the worst, in particular the 12th, 13th and 15th holes which are all heavily saturated.
As a result, Qualifying School Director Mike Stewart took the decision that the Old Course will not be used for the first two rounds of competition to give it every possible chance to dry out. The first two rounds (now over four days: Thursday November 9 to Sunday November 12) will be played over the New Course.
There will then be a redraw with both the Old and New Courses being used to complete the third and fourth rounds on Monday November 13 and Tuesday November 14.
There will then be the cut to the top 70 and those tied for 70th place who will complete rounds five and six on Wednesday November 15 and Thursday November 16 – the venues for the last two rounds to be confirmed.
“Our main objective is to try and complete six rounds, or as many rounds as possible,” said Mike Stewart. “However, in order to do so, this will require us to extend the event using our additional ‘bad weather’ days of Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16.
“Assuming there is a significant improvement in the condition of the Old Course over the next few days, it will open again for practice on Saturday and Sunday.”
