Tunnicliff Reaps Reward on the Greens

The old saying “drive for show, putt for dough” applied once again during the Diageo Championship at Gleneagles with the Reuters Statistics highlighting Miles Tunnicliff’’s superb performance on the greens as he marched to his second European Tour title.

The Reuters Statistics show that putting was the strongest part of his game with 1.704 putts per green in regulation, a statistic that put him in eighth place in that category, and he averaged 28.2 putts per round with only four players bettering him over the week.

By comparison, off the tee Tunnicliff lay 31st in terms of driving accuracy with 63.5% of fairways hit and 56th in the driving distance category with 268.2 yards, some 30 yards short of the week’’s longest driver Steve Webster.

Par fives were also a key for Tunnicliff as he played the long holes in 12 under par on his way to a 13 under par winning total of 275, with the second and 12th holes being particularly profitable as he birdied both in all four rounds.
