Turkish Airlines Open day one - What they said

Nicolas Colsaerts, Joost Luiten and Haydn Porteous led the way at seven under after day one of the Turkish Airlines Open.

Here, we take a look at what some of the chasing pack had to say after their opening rounds.

Padraig Harrington (65, -6)

"If I drive it well, I can score. I drove it well. I gave myself lots of chances. Just kept it nicely in play all day. They have toughened up the course a little bit. They are using the back tee on number ten this year where they didn't use it last year. I don't think the scoring is as good as last year. I know there's six and seven under pars but you start looking down further, three under is a pretty decent return for today. The greens are beautiful. If you're hitting good shots you can hole a lot of putts out there. They are a very nice pace. They are not quick so you'll feel confident over every putt. There's nothing slipping away from you."

Kiradech Aphibarnrat (66, -5)

"I'm pleased with the way I'm playing, to shoot five under in the opening round, still a couple of shots behind. But still a lot of golf to go. Really comfortable with the way I'm swinging the last two or three months. Just keep looking forward to playing all the biggest events, especially the last Final Series Race to Dubai. The way I'm playing, it's just really confident and I just want to keep going into the last events."

Eddie Pepperell (66, -5)

"I didn't quite have my game. I hit a lot of shots right off the tee. You know, I'm happy with that to be honest. I feel I can tidy a couple of things up this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Nothing structurally wrong. I think it was just an off-day with a couple of tee-shots but the iron play was good. I took advantage of a lot of good iron shots when I did hit them and holed some nice putts whether they were for birdies or pars. It was nice to have found some greens that were quick, I've always putted better on quick greens. I'm well aware that it's Q-School this week and next week and 12 months on to not be there and to be here is a nice change."

Ian Poulter (66, -5)

"I think whenever you play golf and don't make any mistakes, obviously it makes it easier to have a decent score. There was a couple of decent par-putts in there which were key to holding the round together and there was a couple of par fives there where putts lipped-out when they had opportunities to go in. It was a nice round of golf, I'm happy with that. I didn't hit the ball very well Tuesday afternoon when I was here practising for six hours on the range but, you know, just going through old notes and working through the basics of what I need to do to hit the ball well seemed to work on Wednesday and I hit it great today. I need two good weeks. I want to move up in the World Rankings, that's something that's going to be quite important to me by the end of the year and, obviously, if I can have a big couple of weeks and then have a big week in Dubai, who knows how far I can move up."
