U.S. Open: DP World Tour Fantasy Ones to Watch

The third Major Championship of the year takes place this week at the U.S. Open and here is all that players of the DP World Tour's official fantasy game need to know.

All eyes will be on World Number One Scottie Scheffler as he makes his first attempt at completing the career Grand Slam.

His win at last year's US PGA Championship and Open, added to his two Masters triumphs, put him on the cusp of joining golf's most exclusive club and he has not slowed down since, with three further PGA TOUR victories, a runner-up finish at the Masters and a worst result of 24th.

One man who has already won the career Grand Slam is Rory McIlroy and he will be chasing more history in New York State.

His win at the Masters took his Major tally to six and another would see him surpass Sir Nick Faldo as the European with the most Major wins in the four-event era.

Race to Dubai leader Patrick Reed has shown fine form in the Majors this year and he will be looking to tighten his grip on the Harry Vardon Trophy, while Aaron Rai will be teeing it up as a Major winner after his success at the US PGA Championship.

There are also nine DP World Tour members making their U.S. Open debut as part of a world class field, with Shinnecock Hills Golf Club set to provide a stern test for the very best.

Who are the most backed players

Scheffler is the World Number One and a two-time major winner last year alone so it is little surprise to see the American is the most popular pick among our players featuring in 63% of teams.

Matt Fitzpatrick, champion of this event in 2022, is next at 56%, followed by European Number One McIlroy at 52%.

Jon Rahm and Cameron Young round out the top five, with both featuring in 33% of teams.

Who are our ones to watch?

Here, we pick out three players in action this week who are worth considering for your Fantasy team selections.

Favourite: Scottie Scheffler

There's not really anywhere else to start except with the history-chasing World Number One. We're not going to pretend it's an inspired or brave choice but the odds - and quite frankly the facts - don't lie. We could go even further back to show Scheffler's excellence but since finishing in the top ten at this event last year he has recorded four wins and finished outside the top ten on just five occasions with no missed cuts. His last six starts feature three runner-up finishes and a worst result of 14th and he heads to a links-style layout as the Open champion. The career Grand Slam may well be beckoning on Sunday evening.

Form Horse: Tommy Fleetwood

Scheffler is also the form player in the world but behind him there are a host of stars playing well and we've given this one to Fleetwood based on his remarkably consistent excellence. He may have missed the cut at the US PGA Championship but that was the first weekend he sat out since this event last year. Either side of his Aronimink disappointment he sealed top fives at PGA TOUR Signature Events, with six other top fives and two wins also coming in the last 12 months. Fleetwood has been Number One on both sides of the Atlantic, is a Rolex Series winner, an Olympic medallist and a Ryder Cup specialist, all that is left is a Major.......

Wild Card: Alex Fitzpatrick

It says a lot about Fitzpatrick's recent rise that he was one of the players who coud easily have been selected as the Form Horse. Since his victory at the Hero Indian Open he has claimed another win alongside brother Matt at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and sealed three top tens from his five starts so far as a PGA TOUR member. This week's links-style layout may also suit him as he has top 30s at The Open and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship but it is also one of the toughest tests in golf and a true baptism of fire for a U.S. Open debut. It would be an upset if he were to join Matt in lifting the trophy this week but it would also be a continuation of a remarkable recent trajectory.
