Jean Van de Velde and Søren Hansen may have narrowly missed out on winning the Open de France but there was still reason to celebrate as their performances at Le Golf National earned them a place in The 134th Open Championship at St Andrews.
Van de Velde, who lost out in a play-off, and Hansen, who finished third, were the leading two players, not otherwise exempt, in a cumulative money list taken from all official European Tour events from The Daily Telegraph Dunlop Masters up to and including the Open de France and including the US Open.
Two spots remain open for St Andrews on for the leading players, not otherwise exempt, at this week’s Smurfit European Open and next week’s Barclay’s Scottish Open.
