Lee Westwood has the chance to achieve another milestone in his career this weekend - highest earner in European Tour history.
Ernie Els currently tops the Career Money List with €26,100,907 with Westwood second having accumulated €25,848,392 over his 18 seasons on The European Tour, and the World Number Two can make up the €252,515 deficit with a top three finish in this week’s WGC – HSBC Champions.
The opportunity comes at the same Sheshan International course where he finished runner-up last year, one shot behind Francesco Molinari and nine clear of the rest.
It was also this time last year that Westwood went to World Number One for the first time: "I played like World Number One in the tournament - unfortunately Francesco played a little bit better."
Westwood has won 21 European Tour titles, the most recent being the Ballantine’s Championship earlier this season, and been crowned European Number One twice, first in 2000 and then again in 2009 when he won the inaugural Race to Dubai.
Westwood tees up alongside US PGA champion Keegan Bradley and Australian Adam Scott, winner of the last WGC event in Akron in August.
