Westwood set to defend title in Malaysia

England’s Lee Westwood will return to Malaysia to defend his title at the Maybank Malaysian Open 2015.

The former World Number One ended a near two-year absence from the winner’s circle in style when he romped to a seven-shot victory for his 41st career title worldwide.

Last week, the 41 year old added career title number 42 in the Thailand Golf Championship on the Asian Tour.

Recalling his victory at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club in April, Westwood said: “You have to play really well to win any tournament by seven shots. I played really nicely that week and didn’t make many mistakes, which was key to my victory. If I can stay solid from tee to green, I don’t see why I can’t be in contention again.”

Westwood will be joined in the Malaysian capital by flamboyant Frenchman Victor Dubuisson, his team-mate from The 2014 Ryder Cup, as well as the man who masterminded Europe’s victory over their American counterparts, Paul McGinley.

Dubuisson burst onto the scene in late 2013 when he beat a world-class field to lift his maiden European Tour title at the Turkish Airlines Open.

Whilst he was unable to add to his sole victory Dubuisson has been a model of consistency this term, recording a string of top-five finishes including a joint runner-up at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship a few weeks ago.

Westwood and Dubuisson will join a stellar cast of 156 players from The European and Asian Tours for the prestigious co-sanctioned championship, which returns to Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club from February 5-8.

In recent times, the tournament has produced young and exciting winners in the form of Korean sensation Noh Seung-yul (2010) and Matteo Manassero of Italy (2012).
