Westwood takes the lead in Dubai

Lee Westwood found himself two shots clear at the top of the leaderboard after making a fast start on day three of the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

The Englishman, who won this event in 2009, began the day a single shot behind halfway leaders Sergio Garcia and Francesco Molinari but rolled in his eight-foot birdie putt at the first to join them on nine under.

And when Garcia and Molinari both carded bogeys at the opening hole, Westwood found himself alone at the summit.

The 43 year old then holed out for an eagle at the long second to get to 11 under and open up a three-shot lead.

But Bernd Wiesberger notched back-to-back birdies at the third and fourth to move to nine under and cut Westwood's lead to two strokes.

Defending champion Rory McIlroy, who sits fourth in the Race to Dubai rankings presented by Rolex, climbed to five under after firing birdies at the second, seventh, ninth and tenth holes on Saturday.

Race to Dubai leader Henrik Stenson, meanwhile, slipped to one under par after carding bogeys at the fourth and sixth holes.
