Apart from 2002 when it was played at Sahalee Country Club in Washington State, the spiritual home of the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational has been the Firestone Country Club in Akron and the Ohio venue plays host once again this year for the 11th time. Almost as prevalent in that time have been victories for Tiger Woods and the American added to his already remarkable record with his seventh triumph 12 months ago. Last August, Woods and three time Major Champion Padraig Harrington were, arguably, the top two players in the game and proved that conclusively with a riveting showdown. The Irishman lit the blue touch paper with an opening 64 and he maintained the lead going into the final round. The advantage was overturned by Woods after a blistering start to the final day but, by the 13th hole, the pair were level once more. However, the pivotal moment came on the 16th, Woods firing a sensational eight iron approach to a foot for a birdie four, while Harrington found the water on his way to a triple bogey eight. It was game over as Harrington had to settle for a share of second place with the fast finishing Robert Allenby, four adrift of Woods.
