Bernd Wiesberger picked up two shots to move into a share of the lead on day three of the Made in Denmark presented by FREJA.
The Austrian missed seven months with a wrist injury last year but has played 12 events so far on the 2019 Race to Dubai as he looks for a fifth European Tour victory.
He picked up two shots in his first ten holes to get to seven under at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort and share the lead with Frenchman Romain Langasque, who was level par after ten holes.
Wiesberger's countryman Matthias Schwab was a shot off the lead alongside Scot Robert MacIntyre, one clear of Spaniard Pablo Larrazábal, German Max Schmitt and England's Matthew Southgate.
Lee Westwood was level par for his round stood on the 13th tee after four birdies, two bogeys and a double but a brilliant run of scoring sent him surging up the leaderboard.
He birdied the 13th, eagled the driveable next and picked up further shots on the 15th and 17th to get to four under after a 66, and that round started to look better and better as the wind picked up.
When the final groups got under way, Wiesberger put his approach to six feet on the first to get to six under and a Schwab bogey on the second after a wild tee shot meant the countrymen were separated by just a single stroke.
Wiesberger got on the green at the par five fifth in two and claimed a birdie to join the lead, but Schwab's approach to the fourth left him with just three feet and he edged back ahead.
Langasque had dropped a shot at the first after missing the green but reclaimed it after also getting on the fifth in two and got back to seven under.
Wiesberger birdied from 12 feet at the seventh to join the summit and a Schwab three putt from just off the sixth green then left him in the solo lead.
The 33-year-old then took advantage of the par five eighth to open up a two shot cushion but he bogeyed the next after going left off the tee.
Schwab made a bogey on the seventh after finding sand that dropped him to six under but he regained it straight away on the next
A three putt from Wiesberger on then tenth meant it was a three way tie at the top and there were 13 players within three shots of the lead.
MacIntyre sandwiched a bogey on the third with an eight foot putt on the second and a birdie on the par five fifth to sit just one back.
Schwab's struggles for consistency continued and he bogeyed the ninth to turn in 38 and sit alongside MacIntyre.
Larrazábal and Southgate were both two under for their rounds, with Schmitt having picked up one shot.
