With This Win… Justin Rose – Volvo Masters

With this win Justin Rose secured his fourth European Tour International Schedule victory in his 153rd European Tour event as a professional. It was his second victory of The 2007 European Tour season, following the MasterCard Masters.

*With his victory wins The European Tour Order of Merit with €2,944,945.

  • Becomes the seventh  multiple winner of the season, following Tiger Woods (WGC – CA Championship, WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and US PGA Championship), Henrik Stenson (Dubai Desert Classic and WGC – Accenture Match Play), Padraig Harrington (Irish Open and The 136th Open Championship),  Mikko Ilonen (Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open and Scandinavian Masters), Lee Westwood (Valle Romano Open de Andalucia and The Quinn Direct British Masters) and Ernie Els (South African Airways Open and HSBC World Match Play Championship).
  • The second time he has recorded multiple victories on The European Tour, following 2002 when he won the dunhill championship and The British Masters.

*Moves to Number Seven in The Official World Golf Ranking – his highest ever position.

*The 234th English victory in European Tour history.

  • Justin Rose (MasterCard Masters and Volvo Masters), Paul Casey (Abu Dhabi Golf Championship), Lee Westwood (Valle Romano Open de Andalucia and The Quinn Direct British Masters), Graeme Storm (Open de France ALSTOM), Ross Fisher (The KLM Open) and Nick Dougherty (Alfred Dunhill Links Championship) are the English winners on The 2007 European Tour.

*Victory in his fourth appearance in the Volvo Masters, beating his best previous finish of tied 18th in 2002.

*Follows Nick Faldo (1988), Lee Westwood (1997) and Ian Poulter (2004) as English winners of the Volvo Masters.

*Gains  an exemption until the end of 2017 as a result of winning the Volvo Masters and The European Tour Order of Merit.

*Gains his largest European Tour prize of  €666,660 (£467,644).

*Moves over €6 million in European Tour Official Career Earnings.

  • Moves to the top of The Ryder Cup European Points List with €1,133,349 and The Ryder Cup World Points List with 100.43.
  • Gains a place in the 2008 WGC – Bridgestone Invitational.

*Ninth top ten from his 12 starts in the 2007 season – his most in a single season and 27th of his European Tour career.

*His sixth  victory as a professional.

*His four European Tour wins have all come in different countries- South Africa (2002 dunhill championship), England (2002 British Masters), Australia (2007 MasterCard Masters) and Spain (2007 Volvo Masters).

*The 187th European Tour victory by a former European Challenge Tour Member.

JUSTIN ROSE AND THE EUROPEAN TOUR ORDER OF MERIT

*With his victory win The European Tour Order of Merit with €2,944,945.

*Has averaged €245,412 from his 12 events.

*Becomes the third player, in European Tour history, following Ronan Rafferty (1989) and Colin Montgomerie (1993) to win the Volvo Masters and as a result win The European Tour Order of Merit.

*Only led The European Tour Order of Merit for one week during the season – the final week after the Volvo Masters. The second year in a row this has been repeated – Padraig Harrington did the same in 2006.

*Won The European Tour Order of Merit from just 12 events. Only Peter Oosterhuis, in 1972, who played 11 events,  has won The European Tour Order of Merit playing fewer events.

*From his 12 events, has won twice, the MasterCard Masters and Volvo Masters; second at the BMW PGA Championship, Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and tied second at the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational, plus another four top ten finishes.

*Since The European Tour began in 1972, Rose becomes the fourth Englishman to win The European Tour Order of Merit. He follows: Peter Oosterhuis (1972, 73, 74), Nick Faldo (1983, 92) and Lee Westwood (2000).

*Gains a ten year European Tour exemption until the end of 2017.
