With This Win… Lee Westwood – The Quinn Direct British Masters

With this win Lee Westwood secured his 18th European Tour International Schedule victory in his 322nd  European Tour event. It is his second victory of The 2007 European Tour season, following the Valle Romano Open de Andalucia.

  • His 18th official European Tour victory takes him into joint second place on the list of most English victories on The European Tour, alongside Mark James.

*His third official European Tour victory on English soil following the 1998 English Open (Marriott Hanbury Manor) and 2000 Compaq European Grand Prix (De Vere Slaley Hall). (Won the 2000 World Match Play Championship at Wentworth Club, but his victory in that year was not classed as official).

  • The fifth multiple winner of the season, following Tiger Woods (WGC – CA Championship, WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and US PGA Championship), Henrik Stenson (Dubai Desert Classic and WGC – Accenture Match Play), Padraig Harrington (Irish Open and The 136th Open Championship) and Mikko Ilonen (Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open and Scandinavian Masters).
  • The fifth time he has recorded multiple European Tour victories in a single season – four in 1998; three in 1999, five in 2000, two in 2003 and  2007.

*Moves to €1,270,915  in The European Tour Order of Merit and into 12th   from 22nd  – the sixth time in his European Tour career he has passed €1 million in official earnings in a single season.

*The 231st English victory in European Tour history.

*Westwood, with his two victories, follows Justin Rose (MasterCard Masters), Paul Casey (Abu Dhabi Golf Championship), Graeme Storm (Open de France ALSTOM) and Ross Fisher (The KLM Open), as English winners on The 2007 European Tour.

*Follows Tony Jacklin (1973), Guy Hunt (1977), Tommy Horton (1978), Nick Faldo (1989), Mark James (1990), Peter Baker (1993), Justin Rose (2002), Greg Owen (2003) and Barry Lane (2004) as English winners of The Quinn Direct British Masters since 1972.

*His final round of 65 equals the lowest final round  and lowest final round in relation to par by a winner on The European Tour season in 2007.

  • Gains a place in the 2008 WGC – Bridgestone Invitational
  • Moves to the top of The Ryder Cup European Points List with €559,060
  • Fourth consecutive top ten finish. Was ninth tied at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, sixth tied at the Omega European Masters and the Mercedes-Benz Championship
  • His eighth top ten finish of the 2007 season and 87th of his European Tour career.

*His 29th  victory as a professional.
