With This Win... Peter Hedblom - Maybank Malaysian Open

With this win Peter Hedblom secured his second second  European Tour International Schedule victory in his 291st European Tour event as a professional. It was his first European Tour win since the 1996 Moroccan Open – a gap of 11 years and one day. This gap represents the fifth biggest gap between victories in European Tour history.

• In that time had played 194 European Tour events without a win. The closest he came to victory was two runners-up finishes

• Gains a European Tour exemption until the end of 2009

• Gains his largest European Tour prize of €165,895 (£109,347)

• Gains a place in the 2008 HSBC Champions

• Moves to €181,686 in The European Tour Order of Merit

• His three shot final round deficit equals the largest in the event since it became part of The European Tour in 1999, following Yeh We-Tze (2000) and Charlie Wi (2006)

• Aged 37 and 50 days, is the second oldest winner of the Maybank Malaysian since the event became part of The European Tour, after Vijay Singh in 2001, who was 37 and 361 days

• Second Swedish victory on The 2007 European Tour International Schedule, following Henrik Stenson at the Dubai Desert Classic

• Only the third time consecutive Swedish victories have been recorded on The European Tour. They are Mats Lanner and Anders Forsbrand (1994 Madeira Island Open and Moroccan Open), Per-Ulrik Johansson and Robert Karlsson (1997 Smurfit European Open and BMW International Open) and Stenson and Hedblom (2007 Dubai Desert Classic and Maybank Malaysian Open)

• The 71st Swedish victory on The European Tour

• His sixth win as a professional

• The eighth different winner and eighth different nation  to win at  the Maybank Malaysian Open since the event became part of The European Tour in 1999

• First top ten finish of the 2007 season and 26th of his European Tour career

• The 165th European Tour win by a former European Challenge Tour player

• Sixth European Tour win by a former European Challenge Tour player on The 2007 European Tour, following José Manuel Lara (UBS Hong Kong Open), Justin Rose (MasterCard Masters), Alvaro Quiros (Alfred Dunhill Championship),  Ariel Canete (Joburg Open)  and Stenson (Dubai Desert Classic)
