With This Win…. Søren Hansen – Mercedes-Benz Championship

With this win Søren Hansen secured his second European Tour International Schedule victory in his 245th European Tour event. This victory beats his previous best finishes on the 2007 European Tour season of second at the Open de France ALSTOM and tied second at The Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe.

*First European Tour victory since the 2002 Irish Open – a gap of five years and 78 days. During that time has played 144 European Tour events without a victory and has recorded five runner-up finishes in this period.

  • Keeps up with the record of fellow Danish player, Anders Hansen. Like Søren, Anders won his  maiden European Tour title in 2002 – at the PGA Championship. The 2007 season has seen both players secure their second victories – Anders: BMW PGA Championship and Søren: Mercedes-Benz Championship.
  • Gains a two year European Tour exemption until the end of 2009.

*Moves over €5 million in European Tour Official Career Earnings – the 43rd player to achieve the feat in European Tour history.

*Gains a place in the 2008 HSBC Champions.

*Becomes the fourth Danish player to record multiple victories on The European Tour, following Thomas Björn, Anders Hansen and Steen Tinning.

*Second Danish victory of the 2007 European Tour season, following Anders Hansen at the BMW PGA Championship.

*First Dane to win the Mercedes-Benz Championship.

*Becomes the 17th different player to win the Mercedes-Benz Championship in 20 editions of the tournament.
