With This Win... Tiger Woods - Dubai Desert classic

With this win Tiger Woods secured his 34th European Tour International Schedule victory in his 80th European Tour event. It is his second title at the Dubai Desert Classic, following his win in 2006.

*Is now a total of 80 under par for his 20 rounds over the Emirates course. Has broken par  in 18 of his 20 rounds

*Becomes only the second player, following Ernie Els (1994, 2002 and 2005) to record multiple Dubai Desert Classic titles

*His first round 65 equals the lowest first round by a winner on the 2008 European Tour season to date

*The Dubai Desert Classic is the ninth different European Tour International Schedule event  he has recorded multiple victories in

*His second victory in the Dubai Desert Classic from his five appearances. First in 2006 and 2008; tied second in 2001; third in 2007 and tied fifth in 2004

*His four shot final round winning comeback is the largest in Dubai Desert Classic history, beating the
three shots of José Maria Olazábal in 1998 and Robert-Jan Derksen in 2003

*Maintains his 100% record in 2008 – played two and won two, following victory in the Buick Invitational on the US PGA Tour last week

*Gains a place in the 2009 HSBC Champions

*Moves up to 19.931 in the Official World Golf Ranking and moves a full 11 points clear  of Phil Mickelson

*Becomes the 109th American victory in The European Tour history.

*The second American victory on the 2008 European Tour, following Phil Mickelson at the HSBC Champions

  • The fourth American victory in the Dubai Desert Classic, Woods in 2006 and 2008, Fred Couples in 1995 and Mark O’Meara in 2004

*His first top ten finish of the 2008 European Tour  season and 63rd  of his European Tour career

*His 82nd  victory as a professional
