The World No.1 Tiger Woods extended his lead to 7.03 points at the summit of the Official World Golf Ranking this week as he comfortably won the Buick Open at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Woods has now completed 156 consecutive weeks at World No.1 and he has been at the top of the World Rankings for a total of 226 weeks. Although Woods has been occupying the World No.1 spot for the longest amount of consecutive weeks he is still some way short of Greg Normans record of 331 total weeks at the top.
Runners-up at Warwick Hills were Fred Funk, Mark O’’Meara, Esteban Toledo and Brian Gay. Fred moves up from No.77 to No.65, Mark moves into the Top-100 at 92 – a 29 place improvement, Esteban is now No.149 in the world and Brian Gay moves to No.103.
On the European Tour, Paul Lawrie won the Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open and Paul moves up 20 places from No.72 to No.52. In the Sun-Chlorella tournament on the Japan Golf Tour, Christian Pena moves to No.177 after beating Naomichi Ozaki and Brendan Jones into 2nd place. Marco Dawson won the LaSalle Bank Open on the BUY.Com tour and he advances to No. 362 in the world. Iain Pyman won the BMW Russian Open on the European Challenge Tour and he moves to No.347 and Michael Harris won the TELUS Quebec Open on the Canadian Golf Tour and he is now No.547 in the world.
