World Number One Tiger Woods has confirmed his participation in the 2004 Dubai Desert Classic at The Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, from March 4-7.
The 28 year old American, who only previous appearance in the event saw him finish second behind Denmark’’s Thomas Björn in 2001, made the announcement during his preparations for this week’’s Target World Challenge, presented by Williams, in California.
Woods was originally scheduled to play in this season’’s Dubai Desert Classic but withdrew due to the uncertainty surrounding the region at the time. The tournament was eventually won by Robert-Jan Derksen, who finished one shot clear of Ernie Els.
“I was really disappointed not to have made it over to Dubai this year so I’’m more than excited about returning in 2004,” said Woods.
“The organisers were co-operative and supportive and I appreciated their understanding of my decision not to play back in March. Because I wanted to thank everyone in Dubai for their understanding, I immediately agreed to play in the 15th Dubai Desert Classic.”
“I came so close to winning the Dubai Desert Classic two years ago,” added Woods. “To lose any tournament on the final hole is a disappointment – hopefully I can go one better next year.”
