World Rankings Update

The European Tour moved onto the 2006 Ryder Cup venue this week for the Smurfit European Open at the K Club near Dublin. Phillip Price shot a final-round 70 for a one shot victory and as a result the Welshman returns to the World Top-100 at No.76. Mark McNulty and Alastair Forsyth were the joint runners-up in Ireland. Mark improves 67 places to No.116 in the world is now the seventh highest ranked African on the World Ranking after Els (2), Nick Price (10), Goosen (12), Immelman (41), Sabbatini (51) and Tim Clark at No.74.

On the US PGA Tour this week, World number one Tiger Woods won his 38th PGA Tour event of his career as he cruised to a five-stroke victory in the 100th Western Open presented by Golf Digest at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Illinois. Three present Major Champions all made significant World Ranking movements this week. PGA Champion Rich Beem was the outright runner-up and he improves 9 spots to No.18; US Masters Champion Mike Weir finished T3 and the Canadian rises to his highest world ranking position ever of No.3 while the US Open Champion Jim Furyk is the new World No.4.

On the Japan Golf Tour this week, Toshimitsu Izawa won the Y120,000,000 JGT Championship at the Shishido Hills Country Club in Ibaragi Prefecture. Toshi improves 14 positions and is the new World No. 69.

In the week's other tournaments, Jamie Elson moves to World No. 460 after winning the Volvo Finnish Open on the European Challenge Tour. In the Samsung Canadian PGA Championship on the US Nationwide Tour, Tom Carter shot 70-69-66-70 to win and he moves up to No. 518.
