Top class golfers from around the world are committing to The Daily Telegraph Dunlop Masters, raising the stakes higher in the bid for the coveted title and a share of the £1.7 million prize fund.
Spectators will be in for a real treat and see some of the world’’s top golfers battle it out on the Championship Arden course next month, witnessing the best of Britain take on the rest of the world.
Angel Cabrera, Ricardo Gonzalez and Eduardo Romero have all confirmed they will be competing. The Argentine trio have already made their mark in Europe, having each won events on The European Tour. Romero and Cabrera certainly made an impression at last year’’s tournament, finishing joint second after Barry Lane.
Other golfers to commit include Michael Campbell, who will also make the journey to Warwickshire next month to play at the Marriott Forest of Arden. The New Zealand ace is no stranger to success on The European Tour; to date he has notched up six victories, the latest being at the 2003 Nissan Irish Open and was close to securing a seventh title last year at the Barclays Scottish Open, eventually finishing runner-up.
Winner of the 2004 Australasian Tour Order of Merit, Richard Green is also gearing up for the event. The 34 year old Australian became the first left-handed player since 1975 to win on The European Tour, after an outstanding play-off victory in the 1997 Dubai Desert Classic. Green gave his best performance last year, finishing top of his home Tour and 17th on The European Tour Order of Merit.
South African, Charl Schwartzel, will be joining this array of world class players on the course. 20 year old Schwartzel won the 2004 Southern African Tour Order of Merit and currently ranks 15th in The European Tour Order of Merit, making him one to watch at The Daily Telegraph Dunlop Masters.
Andrew ‘Chubby’’ Chandler, of promoters International Sports Management commented: “New players are committing on a daily basis, so its set to be a great tournament – the competition will definitely be intense with such a high calibre of golfers from around the world already confirmed.”
These new recruits will join the extensive list of European players already confirmed, including Ian Woosnam, Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley, Ian Poulter, Thomas Bjorn and David Howell, from 12-15 May at the Marriott Forest of Arden, Birmingham.
