The all-Chinese pair produced an astonishing score of 32 under par after rounds of 57 and 55, under the better-ball format and with Quianzhou's handicap factored in.

They started Friday's second round, on the Blackstone Course at Mission Hills, on the back nine and birdied all nine holes before adding four more birdies and two eagles on the front nine.

That was enough for a thumping ten-stroke victory as Bowen Xiao, tied sixth in the main tournament on eight under, finished 22 under with his partner Zetao Ning to share second place with Sebastian Garcia and his partner Leon.

Dan Bradbury and amateur Jonathan Chu were fourth with Yuto Katsuragawa and Liang Huang completing the top five.

Dylan Frittelli, who finished in the top ten with his partner Zhuangping Yu while also lying joint third on the DP World Tour leaderboard, summed up the experience from the point of view of the professionals.

"I enjoyed it," he said, speaking before the later finishers had completed their rounds. "I enjoyed playing with my partners.

"Zhuangping played great – we’re on there on the leaderboard. I don’t think we’re going to win but we might at least be in the top three to five.

"I had fun playing with him, and then my other partner Weidong – he was awesome. He was tons of fun. We didn’t talk much, language barrier, but interactions were good and he also played really well."
