Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from Moving Day at Yas Links Abu Dhabi.

Min Woo Lee

Pádraig Harrington stormed into contention while Min Woo Lee and Shane Lowry joined Francesco Molinari at the summit on day three of the 2023 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Here is everything you need to know from Moving Day at Yas Links Abu Dhabi.

Harrington's brilliant birdie burst

He may be 51 years old but Harrington proved beyond doubt on Saturday that he is still capable of contending on the biggest stages. The Irishman reeled off six birdies in a row from the 11th on his way to a bogey-free 64 which contained eight birdies in all. He heads into the final round on 11 under par, just two shots off the lead. He said: "I'm very happy. It sometimes happens on a Saturday - you go out there a little bit early, off the lead, no pressure, no stress. Got a good vibe in the group, talking, chatting, telling stories and the score just happened. I didn't realise I made six birdies in a row on the back nine and that's a good place to be on the golf course when you're not overthinking and you're enjoying what you're doing and enjoying the company."

Hatton chips in... from on the green

Tyrrell Hatton reached the green in three at the long second but found himself almost 70 feet away from the pin. Instead of putting, he opted to chip - and his decision paid dividends as he holed it for a birdie.

Lee goes close to ace

Lee almost made a hole-in-one on the short fourth but instead had to settle for a birdie from just over a foot. He signed for a third-round 66 to grab a share of the lead on 13 under.

Lowry's exceptional eagle

The sixth is one of the hardest holes at Yas Links Abu Dhabi but Lowry made it look easy. He holed his approach shot from the fairway, with the ball taking one hop on the green before diving into the hole for an eagle. The Irishman built on that momentum and goes into day four tied at the top.

Söderberg's classy comeback

Sebastian Söderberg ran up a triple-bogey six at the short eighth to slip down the leaderboard but bounced back in style, birdieing the ninth before going eagle-birdie-birdie from the 11th to get to 12 under.
