Day three digest: Turkish Airlines Open

Everything you need to know from the third round of the Turkish Airlines Open.

The Montgomerie Maxx Royal

Superb Schwab continued to shine. Hebert went low and putting was out of fashion on day three at The Montgomerie Maxx Royal.

Here is everything you need to know from the third round of the Turkish Airlines Open.

Schwab stretches lead

The trend continues. A top five at last week's WGC-HSBC Champions came hot on the heels of a top five in the Rolex Series at the Italian Open as Matthias Schwab took his top ten tally on the 2019 Race to Dubai to nine. You get the feeling that maiden win is not far away and a third round 66 means he will take a three shot lead into the final round, with Ross Fisher, Tyrrell Hatton, Benjamin Hebert, Robert MacIntyre and Patrick Reed sharing second. "The game plan is going to be the same as it's been the last three days," he said. "The course is gettable and there are a lot of birdies out there so I'll just stay aggressive because pars won't be enough."

Is it Hebert's time at last?

Since finishing second on the European Challenge Tour Rankings in 2014, Hebert has finished 65th, 64th, 64th and 65th on the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex. That consistency almost bore fruit last season but he lost out in the final of the Belgian Knockout and this term he has been defeated in two play-offs. Such heartbreak only looks to have made him stronger, however, and a stunning third round 64 put him right in the mix in Turkey. "My chances are looking quite well at the moment," he said. "I played well last week and I'm still in good shape today. You never know. I think it's not very easy to win a tournament, anyway so we'll see tomorrow."

Hole outs from everywhere

Hatton produced this moment of magic at the fourth.

Reed did this at the ninth.

Justin Harding also chipped in at the 12th but it wasn't all celebrations.............

The one that got away

Pablo Larrazábal had an ace at the fifth on day two and Andrea Pavan did this at the 14th on Saturday. Ouch.

After the glove has gone

There are many ways to play golf. Most players play with one glove, Aaron Rai plays with two, but Victor Perez doesn't play with one at all. It's certainly not doing the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship winner any harm as he fired a third round 66 to get right into contention after going 68-69 on days one and two.
