Lowry ready for Race to Dubai battle

Shane Lowry is prepared to take the battle to win the Race to Dubai right to the wire - starting at this week's Italian Open.

The Irishman jumped to the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex with his maiden Rolex Series win at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA in January and reclaimed top spot with his Major triumph at The Open Championship in the summer.

Jon Rahm's victory at the Mutuactivos Open de España knocked Lowry into second place but with three further Rolex Series events after this week at Olgiata Golf club and a World Golf Championships event to come before the season is out, the quest for points is likely to go to the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

And Lowry is determined to follow in the footsteps of Francesco Molinari by winning his first Rolex Series event, Major Championship and Race to Dubai title in the same season.

"It's probably going to come down to the last couple of events," he said. "I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing all year.

"Do I keep an eye on it? I actually watched a little bit of the golf on Sunday but, before that, I didn't watch any of it because I just didn't have time the rest of the week.

"It's very exciting that I'm there and I'm looking forward to the challenge of trying to win the Race to Dubai.

"I want to keep trying to pick up some Ryder Cup points and keep challenging myself every day to shoot the best scores I can, keep playing my golf, keep doing what I've been doing all year and win the Race to Dubai.

"That would kind of top off what has already been an incredible year."

Since finishing in the top 20 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Lowry has been looking after his daughter Iris but is confident he can be in contention at the weekend after his unconventional preparations.

"Last week was a bit different for me," he said. "Wendy was away so I was on daddy daycare for a week, I was looking after Iris for a week.

"I had a couple of things on late in the week that I had to do and did a little bit of practice but didn't get that much done.

"I'm out here this week now and, thankfully, I played yesterday and I felt okay. Play the Pro-Am today now and see how it is and hopefully I can get out there this week and shoot some good scores and give myself a chance at the weekend."
