Louis Oosthuizen admitted there will no excuses if he does not claim a first Rolex Series victory on Sunday at the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player.
The home hero was in pain with kidney stones just hours before his tee time on Thursday but fired a remarkable opening 63 to take the first round lead before fatigue caught up with him in a 72 on day two.
He revealed he was back to full fitness he shot a 71 on moving day to sit one off the lead, and insists it will be all about the golf in round four at Gary Player Country Club.
"Scrappy, very scrappy," he said of his third round effort. "Not on top of the irons and not hitting it really close enough. You can't expect to make birdies from a long way all the time.
"I need to come out tomorrow and find that swing I had on Thursday.
"The body feels great, I had a great rest last night and I felt really strong this morning, no issues there. I just need to play better.
"This is the tournament growing up as a kid you watched wanting to have your name on that plaque walking up the ninth hole there. It would mean a lot but I need to play a little better tomorrow."
Belgian Thomas Detry was alongside Oosthuizen at ten under as he looks for a maiden European Tour victory, and he was delighted with his 69.
"I'm very, very happy," he said. "I pretty much missed only one shot today, I hit a cart path and went into the trees and made double bogey but other than that, played some really good golf.
"Made a little bogey on 18, it's a tough hole. I hit a good drive, just a trickled in the bunker and didn't get up and down.
"I'm very happy with the way I'm playing. I think it's going to be a fun battle tomorrow, definitely."
