Son of former two-time European Ryder Cup player Peter, he enjoyed a promising collegiate career before turning professional in 2023, with his DP World Tour debut coming at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed that year.

Townsend earned HotelPlanner Tour status via the Nordic Golf League for the 2025 season and sealed his first win at the GAC Rosa Challenge Tour, a victory which propelled him to tenth on the Road to Mallorca and all-but assure DP World Tour playing privileges for the 2026 season.

The 27-year-old joins a strong cohort of Swedish golfers who have graduated from the HotelPlanner Tour, including Joakim Lagergren and Mikael Lindberg.
