The man who put Paraguay on the golfing map. Turned professional in 1986 but didn't truly "arrive" under 1999 when he won twice on the US Tour to finish 11th on the money list, 18th on the Official World Rankings and ended a remarkable season as the American 'Rookie of the Year' at the age of 34. He won the Compaq Classic in May then proved it was no fluke by adding the Greater Milwaukee Open title in July. Born and raised in a country with only three courses, he is one of six golfing brothers and lives in the capital, Assuncion. Won five times in Japan during early career. Made biggest international impact with victory over Sam Torrance at the 1993 Alfred Dunhill Cup.
