Played golf at the University of California, Berkeley from 2015 to 2019, winning five times. Won a number of amateur titles and played in a number of team events, including the Walker Cup, Arnold Palmer Cup and Eisenhower Trophy. Spent three weeks at the top of the World Amateur Golf Ranking before turning professional in 2019.

Secured special temporary membership for the 2019-20 PGA TOUR season after accumulating enough points in his first four starts, but won on his sixth start as a professional at the Barracuda Championship.

Would make 22 successive cuts on the PGA TOUR after his debut, a feat only bettered Tiger Woods at 25.

Took up DP World Tour membership at the 2020 WGC-Mexico Championship. Missed his first cut at the 2020 Travelers but followed it up immediately with a victory on his next start at the Workday Charity Open.

His first Major success came at the 2020 US PGA Championship, becoming the third-youngest winner of the event, behind Jack Nicklaus and Rory McIlroy, and setting a Championship scoring record for the final 36 holes with just 129 strokes.

Won his second Major Championship at the 2021 Open Championship at Royal St George’s, becoming the first player in history to win on two Major Championship debuts - he also equalled Bobby Jones' record of eight Major starts needed to win twice.

Then became only the second player after Tiger Woods to win a WGC and a Major before the age of 25 with his victory at the 2021 WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession.

Made his Ryder Cup debut that same year in a winning effort at Whistling Straits, returning three and a half points from four matches.

Capped a remarkable 2021 by winning his first Rolex Series event at the DP World Tour Championship, overhauling a three-stroke deficit in the final round, and becoming the first American to finish the year as DP World Number One.

Represented the United States at the 2022 Presidents Cup, and the following year he won his sixth PGA Tour title at the 2023 Zozo Championship, just three weeks after his second Ryder Cup appearance.

Made his third Ryder Cup appearance at Bethpage Black in 2025.
