Ended a decade without a victory by winning the Russian Open Golf Championship, the second sponsor’s invitee to win during the 2007 season, and his first win since the 1997 European Open. Turned his attention to the US PGA Tour in 2001 after successfully progressing through the US PGA Tour Qualifying School, but returned to Europe in 2007. Unfortunately his 2009 was blighted by injury, to his hip and also to his eyes, suffering a similar ailment to fellow Swede Robert Karlsson, so had a medical exemption for his first nine events in 2010. Did not play at all in 2010 and 2011 and made just three appearances in 2012, so has a medical exemption for his first six events of 2013. Represented his country at both junior and senior level before embarking on a golf scholarship at Arizona State University, where he was a member of the team which won the NCAA Championship in 1990 and played in the same team as Phil Mickelson. Became the first Swede to play in two Ryder Cups, at Oak Hill in 1995 and Valderrama in 1997. Winner of Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award in 1991. His wife Jill is Jesper Parnevik’s sister.
