2022 Portugal Masters - Spectator FAQs

Spectator information for the 2022 Portugal Masters, held at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course from Thursday 27 – Sunday 30 October 2022.

Tournament Format

Date: Thursday 27th – Sunday 30th October 2022

Field: 120 Players

Format:

The tournament will be a 72-hole stroke play event.

The field will play one round on each of the first two days, after which the leading 65 players (and those who tie for 65th place) will go forward to the third and fourth rounds.

In the event of a tie for the first place there will be a hole-by-hole play-off.

Prize Presentation

The Prize Presentation will be held on the 18th green upon the conclusion of play

(Approximately 16:30 - 17:00) on Sunday 30th October

Tournament Tee Times

Play will commence from the 1st & 10th tee on the first two days in 3 balls at 10 minutes intervals with the final two rounds being from the 1st tee only in 2 balls at 10-minute intervals (with starters gaps) TBC.

Last putt in is required at (time TBC) on Sunday.

It is vitally important to us to protect the health and wellbeing of all players, staff, volunteers and spectators attending PGA European Tour events (the “DP World Tour”) and, as such, entry to all DP World Tour events will be subject to strict acceptance of and adherence to our COVID-19 spectator code of conduct (the “Code of Conduct”) and, if applicable, the latest Government guidance. The wearing of masks and social distancing are not mandatory, but members of the public are welcome to do so if they wish. We ask that you are respectful of the choices of others in this matter.

Event Hub

The Portugal Masters Event Hub, is where you will find all the tournament information and updates, including the daily draws, course map, full event schedule and entertainment. Event Hub QR codes can be scanned to access all the information you will need and these QR codes will be displayed as you enter the tournament and within the Championship village and catering areas.

Contactless Payments

There will not be ATM’s onsite. Contactless payments accepted.

Tickets

Purchase your tickets prior to arrival here. The ticket office will also be located by the Welcome Tent.

Welcome Tent

The Welcome Tent is located at the front of the public car park (CP3). Within the Welcome Tent there will be the following facilities:

Spectator's Etiquette

  • Remain still for each shot and do not move until all the Players in the group have played or holed out.
  • Kneel or sit down if you are in the front row. Consider other spectators when using an umbrella.
  • Do not speak to the players while they are on the course.
  • Please keep behind the ropes and barriers on the course and use the official crossing points.
  • Walk, don’t run, and obey the course marshals – they are trying to make your day more enjoyable.
  • There is no dress code in public areas.
  • Dress accordingly for the weather conditions. Sensible shoes should be worn. No metal spikes allowed.
  • Due to social distancing, spectators are prohibited from asking for player autographs.
  • Please listen to any public address announcements and follow instructions from officials and volunteers should they be necessary.

Course

Spectators can move freely around the golf course but please stay outside the ropes. Controlled crossing points, which are clearly marked by signposts and manned by course Marshals, should be used when crossing fairways.

Evacuation Procedure

If it is necessary to evacuate the site, please follow the instructions of the course marshals, volunteers and event officials in an orderly fashion.

PRO-AM

The Portugal Masters Pro-Am takes place on Wednesday 26th October. Spectators will have a front row view of their favourite golfers.

Practice

The practice days prior to the event days are not open to the public. The event is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday.

The access point to the practice range is opposite to the putting green, please follow the signage to the Practice Range.

Putting green is located opposite the club house.

The short game area for pitching and bunker play is located to the right of the driving range

Marshals

The Chief Marshal and team will be managing The Portugal Masters volunteer programme. The Marshals are extremely influential in helping to ensure that play runs smoothly.

The purpose of a Marshal is to ensure that the competitors are able to compete under the best conditions.

Many of the marshals have volunteered at a number of other golf events across the country and have a good understanding of the appropriate golfing etiquette.

Volunteers are an essential element of the Championship and are identified with ‘Marshal’ & Village Host armbands.

Can I bring my own food and drink?

No picnics / picnic hampers allowed.

Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted to be brought into the venue.

There is public catering located at our Championship Village area offering a variety of food and drink.

There are public toilet facilities within our Championship Village, the 6th green catering area and the 13th green catering area

Free Spectator viewing platform is available in the following locations:

1st Tee (Standing)

18th Green (Standing)

NO SMOKING in the viewing platforms. Alcohol will be permitted on the Platform at this event.

A dedicated wheelchair viewing roped off area will be positioned beside the 18th Viewing Platform, and beside the 1st tee.

*Additional Seating *

There are seating areas located in the Championship Village surrounding the food outlets, big screen, and exhibitions.

Leaderboards:

Live leaderboards are located across holes 6, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 to keep you up to date with the action.
There are also Big Screens located in the fan village and around the 18th Green

Championship Village

The Championship Village is where it’s all happening off the golf course and where you will find plenty of seating to relax. There will also be a Giant TV screen so there is no need to miss any of the golf. There will be fun activities for the whole family, retail units and food and drink outlets ensuring that the golf course is not the only place where the action is happening.

Inclement Weather

Observe the leaderboards and big screens throughout the golf course for weather warning signs that will appear prior to inclement weather moving into the area. Spectators are advised to take precautions PRIOR to play being suspended. If the siren sounds, seek shelter immediately, avoiding the following:

Open areas, Hilltops or high places, Isolated trees, Golf buggies and Wire fences

Clothing and What to Wear

It would be recommended to wear casual golf wear. The ground is uneven and particularly under wet conditions the ground may become slippery therefore appropriate footwear should be worn to avoid injury. Please check the weather forecast before you set off on your journey.

Blue denim Jeans are not permitted in the Clubhouse or 18th Green Hospitality Pavilion.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not permitted in any structure, including outdoor balconies & viewing platforms.

WI-FI

Free Wi-Fi is available for spectators throughout the Portugal Masters site. The main hotspots are situated in the Village.

MOBILE PHONE POLICY

The European Tour welcomes mobile phones and encourages fans to enjoy and share their experience on social media.

To make everyone’s experience as enjoyable as possible:

- Please ensure your mobile phone is on SILENT at all times

- Please ensure your flash functionality is switched off at all times

The following usage guidelines apply:

Mobile phone photography for personal use is permitted throughout the week in all areas of the course.

Mobile phone video capture is allowed throughout the week in non- competition areas only, such as

practice facilities and mobile phone zones.

Data use (texting, email, using the European Tour app, social media) is permitted at all times

Please be considerate to other spectators.

At all times, please take care to avoid disturbing players and please respond to all requests from

tournament staff, security, players and members of their team.

Cameras - Cameras are permitted ONLY on Pro Am Day – Wednesday. Cameras are NOT permitted on Match Days – Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Although mobile phones are permitted on all five days of the event, the use of the camera facility is as per the above.

Are wheelchairs allowed on site at the Championship?

Wheelchairs and other motorised chairs are allowed on the tournament grounds. Golf carts are not permitted.

Car Parking: Designated parking for Blue Badge holders is located within Car Park 3.

Is there a Public Crèche?

There will not be a public crèche at this event.

Can I bring a child’s buggy/pushchair?
Yes you can. However please be aware of uneven terrain. Children should always be accompanied by an adult.

The ground is uneven and particularly under wet conditions the ground may become slippery therefore appropriate footwear should be worn to avoid injury.

Are dogs permitted to the course?

Dogs are not permitted on the course with the exception of trained assistance guide dogs, and we respectfully suggest that you do not leave your pet in the car.

Information Centre

The Information Centre is located within our championship village

*Familiarise yourself with the location of First Aid stations and refreshment areas. *

On entry to the venue look for a map board, this will help you find exits, key facilities and provide other key information.

Medical First Aid

Full medical and first aid facility is located at the 6th green catering areas and car park 1. Should you require medical assistance whilst out on course, please ask a marshal or event official who can radio for assistance.

*Lost Property *

Lost property that has been found can be handed in to the nearest marshal, volunteer, event official and they will be stored within the information tent. All items will be delivered to the Championship Office at the end of each day. The Championship Office is located between the club house and car park 1

Left Luggage

There will not be a left luggage facility at the event.

Can I bring a bag / rucksack?
Bags and rucksacks are permitted at the Championship and there are no restrictions on size. For your safety, security bag searches may be in operation on entry.

Interested in volunteering?

DP World Tour needs enthusiastic volunteers aged 18 and over to help with various aspects of the event. Not only will you be upfront and close to your favourite golfers, but you will also gain valuable skills and experience.
