Aaron Cockerill delighted with 'awesome' ace

Aaron Cockerill said it was "awesome" to make a hole-in-one on the opening day of the 2022 Omega European Masters.

The Canadian holed his tee-shot from 170 yards at the short third, with his ball bouncing once before landing in the cup.

Cockerill, who achieved the feat using a nine iron, won a CHF 30,000 insurance policy from Vaudoise.

After signing for a level-par 70, he said: "It was 170 yards, with the altitude here it was a nine iron. It landed five short and one hop right into the hole.

"It was awesome, I’ve not had a hole-in-one in a few years.

"There were a few people on the next tee and we could see it go right in. You don’t want to be long on that green, so it was good that it caught the hole.

"My future children and my wife will be very happy about the prize."
