The Canadian's preparations for this week's event were disrupted as his clubs did not arrive until Wednesday evening, with his wife Chelsea having to fly to Madrid to collect them.

But that did not seem to affect Cockerill, who began the week 110th on the DP World Tour Rankings in Partnership with Rolex, as he fired an opening 68.

During an on-course interview, he said: "My clubs didn't come. My wife flew back to Madrid on Wednesday and went and got them for me. I was able to walk the course and at least see it.

"But yeah, I had an hour on the range last night with my own clubs and here we are!

"It's OK, if you hit the ball where you're looking, you'll be OK."

Cockerill and his wife are expecting their first child and he added: "We wanted to do a trip somewhere together so this actually worked out great, coming to Mallorca - it's an amazing place.

"This might be the last trip she does before the baby comes and hopefully we have a good week on the course and make the most of it and have a few days after as well just to relax."
