Day four digest: 2022 Catalunya Championship

Everything you need to know from a thrilling final day in Spain.

Adri Arnaus

Adri entered the winner's circle, the fans were out in force, Oliver was a wizard from the sand and Laurie and Bernd were keeping their putters in the bag on day four of the 2022 Catalunya Championship.

Here is everything you need to know from Sunday at PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness.

Sixth time lucky for Arnaus

It seems fitting that a man who has finished second five times on the DP World Tour should win his maiden title on a sixth play-off hole. After a stunning 65 had catapulted him up the leaderboard, Adri Arnaus went to extra holes with Oliver Bekker and the duo could not be separated after five trips back up the last. A switch to the 17th - playing the hardest hole on a Sunday this year on Tour at 4.54 - saw the Spaniard put his second to six feet and while he could not make his birdie, a Bekker bogey made him a winner at the 84th attempt. "I just tried to be so much in the present today and in the play-off, and it's been a long play-off," he said. "In the Open de España we were close, in a play-off as well, and this time again in a play-off and we made it so I'm super happy."

Spanish fans revel in home glory

Before the play-off drama, Arnaus had fired that stunning 65 to fire himself to the top of the leaderboard. A birdie on the tenth started his back nine in perfect fashion and he then holed a lengthy putt on the 12th for eagle, made a two-putt gain on the 15th and put his tee-shot to 15 feet on the 16th. The making of that putt brought a big celebration and Arnaus knew he had a chance of his maiden victory. "It was emotional I have to say," he said. "I enjoyed it so much. Since minute zero from the first tee I felt the heat of the people coming to support me. What a back nine, we enjoyed it a lot and it was quite tough coming in so to receive that welcome was amazing. Sometimes you take your fist pump for yourself but this time I was doing it for us all together."

Bekker's bunker brilliance

The quality of Bekker's sand play over the weekend cannot be overstated. On Saturday he got up and down for birdies on the seventh and 12th and did the same thing on the seventh on Sunday. And even more impressive may have been incredible sand saves on the eighth and 11th for par.

Big bird hands Canter a flier

Laurie Canter made a birdie-birdie start to his round but looked to be struggling to maintain that momentum when he was 196 yards away after two shots on the par-five third. Then he did this.

What. A. Shot.

How about this from Bernd Wiesberger? That's why he has his name on his bag.
