Day three digest: WGC - Workday Championship at The Concession 2021

Hideki Matsuyama

Collin made a big move, Simsby put himself on the map and they were holing out from everywhere (again) on Moving Day at the WGC - Workday Championship at The Concession 2021.

Here is everything you need to know from day three of the season's first World Golf Championships event.

Collin cuts loose

At one point on day three, it looked like Sunday would be no more than a procession as Collin Morikawa left the rest of the field in his wake. The American made seven birdies in eight holes from the fifth to get to 17 under and lead by five, and he did not seem to have been working hard to do it. But bogeys on the 13th and 17th saw him sign for a 67 and brought him back within two of the chasing pack. It's quite a pack too, with Brooks Koepka and Billy Horschel the nearest challengers, one ahead of Webb Simpson and two clear of Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed. We could be in for quite a Sunday.

Simsby makes a big impression

It's fair to say that Trevor Simsby is not be the best known player in the field this week. He is not only making his World Golf Championships debut but also playing in his first event on the European Tour and his native US PGA Tour. But he certainly made a name for himself on the sixth hole on day three when he did this.

Perfection from the American. Remember the name.

The hole-outs keep on coming

After a plethora of hole-outs on Friday, it would have been impossible to think they could keep on coming but they most certainly did. Justin Rose and Dustin Johnson were among those getting in on the act but Viktor Hovland stole the show with not one but two. This was the best of them. Take a bow.

Strawsome from Rory

Starting the day six back, McIlroy needed a good start but it didn't look like he would get one after his opening tee shot. Then he did this to make a birdie.

Trees? What trees?

Magic timing

They say a picture paints a thousand words. Well what about this one? Was it intentional? Was it lucky? Can Hideki Matsuyama actually make golf clubs levitate? Whatever it is, we love it.
