Day two digest: 2020 Alfred Dunhill Championship

Everything you need to know from day two in the bush.

Meronk marched on, Hansen maintained momentum, Larrazábal mastered the long and short of it and everyone had a ball in the bush on day two of the 2020 Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Here is everything you need to know from the second round at Leopard Creek Country Club.

Adrian continues to blaze a trail

Not content with becoming the first Polish player to win a European Challenge Tour event, earn a European Tour card and co-lead a European Tour event, Adrian Meronk took the outright lead on Friday. After Joachim B. Hansen had thrown down the gauntlet and opened up a three shot lead in the morning with a 64, Meronk carded a 66 to get to 13 under and lead by three himself. “I’m very pleased," he said. "I hit a lot of good shots and am very happy with my position. The last couple of holes were quite dark, especially the last one. I didn’t want to rush anything because I’ve been in that position before and rushed it. I’m excited, I can't wait. It’s only halfway and there’s still a lot of golf to be played. But I’m very happy."

Hansen on a hot streak

Fresh off a maiden win at last week's Joburg Open, Hansen carded the lowest round of the week so far to get to ten under and sit just three shots off the lead. The last player to win in back to back weeks on the European Tour was Justin Rose in 2017, while Jeunghun Wang was the last man to follow up his maiden victory with another seven days later in 2016 - also in co-sanctioned events with the Sunshine Tour. "It's really nice to be playing the way I'm playing right now so I'm just trying to keep it going," he said. "I love South Africa."

Bez blossoming in the bush

To go from Augusta National Golf Club to Leopard Creek Country Club in the space of a fortnight - with Randpark Golf Club in between - is quite an adjustment but Christiaan Bezuidenhout is taking it all in his stride. After securing a top 40 in his Masters Tournament debut and a top 15 at the Joburg Open, a bogey free 68 left him in the top ten heading into the weekend as he looks for a second European Tour win. "Both courses are brilliant courses," he said of Augusta and Leopard Creek. "It's definitely a more relaxed atmosphere here in the bush, the Kruger is always a special place for me, I always love coming here."

Fancy footwork from Brandon

Christiaan wasn't the only one getting into the spirit of things in the bush - Brandon Stone was rocking these animal print shoes.

Pin denies Pablo perfection

A hole-in-one is a rare beast. A hole-in-one on a par four is rarer still. Pablo Larrazábal came this close to one on Friday.

He can chip as well......

The defending champion had quite the day on Friday, making just four pars. After a double bogey on the second he was four over but then he did this (tip of the cap to Daniel van Tonder, too)

He birdied the fifth, almost made that ace at the sixth but then made three bogeys in a row. A birdie at the tenth was followed by four in a row from the 13th before a bogey-birdie finish sealed a one under par total with a 69. Life is never dull with Pablo around.
