More birdie blitzes
Renato Paratore probably did not expect to be challenging after a bogey-bogey start on Thursday but found himself at six under at the turn, only to drop a shot at the second - his 11th hole. The Italian then propelled himself into contention with a sensational run of six straight birdies from the fourth to finish his round and climb to 11 under par.
Howie's roller coaster ride in Dubai
Craig Howie enjoyed a roller coaster opening 11 holes in his second round on Thursday. The Scot mixed six birdies with three dropped shots and two pars as he briefly held the lead at the Fire Course. The 26-year-old got hot just before the turn as he reeled in five straight birdies from the fifth - following a bogey at the fourth - to propel himself to 13 under before a bogey-bogey start to his back nine. The last time Howie played in the UAE was as an amateur when he carded a first round of 94.
Cart path? No problem for Kaymer
Two time Major Champion Martin Kaymer found himself on the cart path at the par five fifth - his 14th hole - after going left with his second shot. The German had not carded a birdie in his second round at this point but the 11 time European Tour winner showed great touch to put his effort to within two feet and finally record a red number.

Eddie's world works wonders
Eddie Pepperell joked on Wednesday that leader Andy Sullivan was a bully after setting a new course record in the first round in Dubai. The pair were playing partners for the opening two days and as Sullivan continued to challenge at the top of the leaderboard, Pepperell decided he could not watch another birdie attempt from his fellow Englishman and turned his back on him. Whatever the real reason, it worked wonders as he dialled in his tee shot to three feet at the 11th.
I was looking out for my little furry friend 🐱 but she was nowhere to be seen today 😔

Radar's workout
On course commentator Wayne Riley - affectionately known as Radar - doing push-ups. Could a workout DVD be on the horizon?
