Daniel Brown will defend his BMW International Open title when this year's tournament takes place at Golfclub München Eichenried from July 2-5.
In the 37-year history of Germany’s most prestigious golf tournament, no player has ever successfully defended the title.
Brown will face tough competition in his quest for history, as several other players who have already won in Munich will also be teeing off: Ewen Ferguson, Pablo Larrazábal, Martin Kaymer, and Thriston Lawrence are all eyeing another title as well.
Following only three dropped shots throughout the entire tournament, Brown deservedly secured the title last year. Only four winners have posted a better result than his total score of 22 under par in the long history of the tournament.
Ferguson claimed his triumph in Munich in 2025, and Lawrence was crowned champion in 2024, meaning that the titleholders from the past three years will be on display.
Although Kaymer (2008) and Larrazábal (2011 & 2015) lifted the trophy a little longer ago, both have a permanent place in the tournament’s history.
Kaymer is the youngest and only German winner, while the Spaniard, with two titles, is the record champion – alongside Paul Azinger (1990 & 1992), Thomas Bjørn (2000 & 2002), and Henrik Stenson (2006 & 2016).
Danny Willett's highly successful career had its breakthrough at the 2012 BMW International Open, when, at the age of 24, he celebrated his first victory on the DP World Tour.
Four years later, the Englishman achieved his greatest triumph at the Masters, followed by an emotional win at his prestigious home tournament, the 2019 BMW PGA Championship in England. Willett will be the third Green Jacket holder to tee off in Munich this year, alongside Sergio García and Patrick Reed.
