Double delight as Luiten makes another ace

Joost Luiten made a second hole-in-one in as many events as the aces kept on coming on the European Tour at the 2021 Tenerife Open.

The Dutchman's seven iron at the 164 yard second took three bounces before finding the bottom of the cup and followed his day one ace at last week's Gran Canaria Lopesan Open.

It was the 15th of the season and means there has now been a hole-in-one in seven consecutive events, with 11 coming in that run.

You would think that with players finding the cup in a single blow so regularly, the consensus would be that there is a knack to it, but Luiten admits some of it comes down to good fortune.

"Just aim at the pin!" he said. "It doesn't matter where the pin is, just aim at it. Eventually if you do it many times you will get lucky. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes and that was me today and last week.

"I hope it will become a habit but I wouldn't put any money on it. It's always nice: holes-in-one and eagles and albatrosses. You never know what this game will give you, I'm just very happy and very lucky to make two in a week and hopefully we can keep it up."

He added: "I just came off a bogey on the first so I was a bit disappointed and a bit angry.

"It was a nice one because we could see the bottom of the hole so we could see it was going in and it's always special."
