European top six on the cards?

Should the cards fall right this weekend in Miami, there is an outside chance Europe could occupy the top six places in the Official World Golf Ranking on Sunday night.

Martin Kaymer

With Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and Graeme McDowell currently filling the top four places in the world ranking, Paul Casey and Rory McIlory have an opportunity to make it a European one to six should both finish in the top three in the WGC – Cadillac Championship with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson finishing well down the field.

The battle for the World Number One position is between Kaymer and Westwood this week, with the Englishman needing a top four finish to have a chance of regaining pole position after being unseated by the young German two weeks ago. Should Westwood take the title over the Blue Monster at Doral Golf Resort & Spa then he will return to the World Number One position even if Kaymer takes second.

However, if Westwood finishes down the field, there is an opportunity for both Donald and Woods to climb to World Number Two with a victory.

European golfers currently occupy six of the top eight positions in the Official World Golf Ranking, and with 76 points predicted to be available for the winner, there is likely to be plenty of movement this week.
