Frederic Lacroix thrilled after going low at Kingsbarns

Frederic Lacroix enjoyed going low on the opening day of the 2022 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship as his flawless 62 at Kingsbarns Golf Links provided the perfect platform for a successful week.

The Frenchman made the most of favourable conditions at Kingsbarns on Thursday, firing two eagles and six birdies to get to ten under par.

That left him one shot behind early clubhouse leader Romain Langasque, whose 61 equalled the course record at St Andrews’ Old Course, as the French flag dominated the top of the leaderboard.

Lacroix got off to a stunning start, making birdies at the third, fifth, sixth and eighth before eagling the ninth for a front-nine 30.

After picking up another shot at the 14th, he rattled in his enormous eagle putt at the 16th to jump to nine under.

And he finished with another birdie from around 12 feet at the 18th for a sensational 62.

"It's always nice to go low," said Lacroix. "I had a few longer putts that dropped and that makes it ten under - I didn't really realise until I came to 18."

Lacroix had fun playing alongside amateur partner Daniel Nathan in the team event.

He added: "It's not like any other Pro-Am because you only play with one amateur player. But actually today was great.

"The weather was nice, we had a good group today and I really enjoyed it."
