The European Tour returned to Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel and Country Club for the first time since 1999 for the inaugural English Championship, and the Hertfordshire venue received a £50,000 donation as part of #GolfForGood to donate to charity.
Hanbury Manor selected four charities to each receive a donation of £12,500 – Teenage Cancer Trust, Isabel Hospice, Teens Unite and Dementia Adventure.
A significant number of Callaway Tour Grade Range balls, used by the professionals and donated in partnership with Callaway - the Official Ball of the European Tour and the UK Swing - will also be donated to Hertfordshire Golf Union Junior Section.
The Heroes Initiative, meanwhile, rewards everyday heroes of the Covid-19 pandemic with unforgettable golfing experiences and prizes. Last week’s winner, Scott Day, was nominated by his wife Kirsty after volunteering to work 90 hour weeks building ventilators for the NHS.
Scott was rewarded for his incredible efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic - all while helping Kirsty to prepare for the birth of their first child - by a surprise phone call from English Championship winner Andy Sullivan. He also received a prize of a year’s membership at Hanbury Manor along with a year’s supply of Callaway Chrome Soft Golf Balls.
Each host venue during the UK Swing will receive £50,000 from the European Tour’s #GolfforGood initiative, while the top ten players on the mini Order of Merit after the sixth event, the ISPS Handa UK Championship, will also share a further £250,000 to donate to charities of their choice.
So far, a total of £237,385 has been donated to good causes, with #GolfforGood set to continue this week at the Celtic Classic at The Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport, Wales.
