Indonesia Open moves to paradise island of Bali

The Indonesia Open will find a new home on the paradise island of Bali after confirmation that the 2009 edition of the championship will take place at the breathtaking New Kuta Golf Resort from February 26 to March 1.

As well as a stunning new location on the South Western rim of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, the Indonesia Open will boast an increased prize fund of US$ 1.25 million.

The New Kuta Golf Resort overlooks the stunning ‘Dream Land’ Balangan Beach on the Indian Ocean.  The 7500 yard, par 72 lay-out was designed by Golf Plan, USA (Ronald Fream, David Dale and Kevin Ramsey) and is the first links-style course in Indonesia.

It must be hoped that a change of venue for the Indonesia Open will not change the drama and excitement that has become synonymous with the event over the past few seasons, with last year’s thrilling finale – when Felipe Aguilar conjured a magical birdie on the 72nd hole to beat Jeev Milkha Singh by a single stroke – one of the most exciting finishes on The European Tour International Schedule.

Mr. John Eu, tournament promoter Global One’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are extremely grateful to The European Tour, the Asian Tour and Indonesia Golf Association for endorsing the New Kuta Golf Resort as the host venue for the 2009 Indonesia Open.

“Our vision for the event has always been to continue elevating the prize fund and attracting the best players from around the world. That is a commitment we made to the Indonesia Golf Association back in 2005 and we are delighted that the tournament continues to grow.”

Keith Waters, Director of International Policy for The European Tour, said: “We are delighted to announce a stunning new venue on The European Tour International Schedule and an increased prize fund for the 2009 Indonesia Open. Our thanks, as always, go to tournament promoters Global One, as well as the owners of the New Kuta Golf Resort, whose vision and foresight has produced a magnificent facility in a truly idyllic setting.”
