Italian trio join Andalucia field

Italian trio Matteo Manassero and Edoardo and Francesco Molinari will be amongst the 96 players that will tee off in the second edition of the Andalucía Masters between October 27-30.

The European Tour event will be hosted for the second successive season by Club de Golf Valderrama, one of the most respected golf courses in Europe.

Matteo Manassero became the youngest ever winner on the European Tour at the Castelló Masters Costa Azahar In 2010 at the age of 17 years and 188 days.

Six months later, he added his second win at the Maybank Malaysian Open two days before turning 18, describing it as “my best possible birthday present”.

Speaking of his Italian compatriots, Mannassero said he considers himself “privileged” to have them as friends.

“They have more years of experience on Tour than me and it is a difficult life at times, so I rely on their advice to help me find my way. We also practice a lot together, which is great for me," said the Verona native.

The Molinari brothers, current Omega Mission Hills World Cup Champions, were part of the winning Ryder Cup team at Celtic Manor after one of the best displays of European golf ever, as Colin Montgomerie’s men scored five and a half points out of six on the final day.

The Molinaris tied with Matt Kuchar and Stewart Cink in the fourballs, which provided a big boost for Europe and dealt a blow to the US morale.

Spurred on by the singing gallery, which chanted “There’s only Two Molinaris!” to the tune of Guantanamera, they staged one of the closest matches of the 2010 Ryder Cup.

European Captain Colin Montgomerie said: “I believe that Sunday will be remembered as one of the best in the history of golf, with a special mention to the Molinaris.

“They were one down playing the last, they knew they needed a birdie to save a half-point and they made it.

“It was an impressive performance; two rookies playing in the last match of the day, perfectly attuned as brothers, with the eyes of the whole of Europe focused on them. Francesco and Edoardo created a piece of golfing history on Sunday”.

The Autonomous Government of Andalusia, owner of the tournament rights and its main sponsor, has entrusted Octagon, a well-respected sports marketing company, with the organization of the Andalucía Masters as they look to promote the Andalucía Tourism Brand and showcase the region as a venue for first-class sporting events on The European Tour’s last stop on European soil before going East.
