Jesper Parnevik confirmed for the Smurfit European Open

Jesper Parnevik, a member of Europe’’s winning Ryder Cup Team at The De Vere Belfry in September 2002, has confirmed that he will make his debut in the Smurfit European Open at The K Club, Straffan, Co. Kildare, from July 1-4.

The 39 year old Swede, who also played an integral part in Europe’’s victory over the United States at Club de Golf Valderrama in 1997, has won four times on The European Tour International Schedule, his last victory being the 1998 Volvo Scandinavian Masters in his home country, and would love nothing better than to notch his fifth success in Ireland at the course where his brother-in-law Per-Ulrik Johansson won twice.

Notable for his upturned baseball cap rim and distinctive attire as well as his dynamic golf, the son of one of Sweden’’s most celebrated comedians, Bo, has also won five times on the US PGA Tour, his last success coming in the 2001 Honda Classic.

Parnevik, who rejoined The European Tour last month, has shown a welcome return to form this year in the United States, carding three top ten finishes in his first five events, and will be another player to watch from an already high-quality field.
