Karlsson continues to impress in Belgium

Anton Karlsson maintained momentum on day two of the Belgian Knockout to take top billing in Section B at Rinkven International Golf Club.

The Swede had been the best of the entire field in round one by two shots after a 63, and a 68 on Friday moved him to 11 under.

The top 32 players from each half of the draw advance to the weekend, with six rounds of nine hole knockout stroke play facing the remaining 64.

South African Justin Walters easily secured his place with a 67 that left him at nine under, one shot clear of Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño, who carded a 69.

Malaysia's Gavin Green fired a 66 that moved him away from danger and to seven under alongside England's David Horsey and in-form Scot Robert MacIntyre.

Defending champion Adrian Otaegui bogeyed four of his first six holes to risk elimination but a birdie on the last saw him sign for a 72 and finish one shot out of an 11 man play-off for nine spots to get the Section down to 32.

Only one trip was needed at the play-off hole, with Dane Lasse Jensen and England's Max Orrin making bogeys on the par four after going left off the tee to miss out.

For Orrin, it was his only bogey of the day after he had surged up the leaderboard with a blemish free 66.

Karlsson was a picture of consistency in his round, birdieing the third, fifth and 11th and hitting a stunning approach into the 16th to get to 12 under.

A bogey on the 18th did little to take the gloss off the first two rounds for a player who has two top tens since regaining his card at the Qualifying School.

"It was good and, in a way, quite similar to yesterday," he said. "I still struggled off the tee but I have been hitting the irons and wedges really well.

It was good. Overall I am really happy - Anton Karlsson

"I made a few less putts today which kept the score not on the same level as yesterday but overall, I am really happy.

"Obviously this week on how far I have played so far it would have been nice to keep playing the stroke play way, but we have always been prepared for the change over the weekend."

Walters was bogey free in his 67, making birdies on the third, fourth, 14th and 17th.

“It was a lot easier today, not as much wind," he said. "I played pretty solid but just didn’t make any putts today.

“We play a lot of the same week in, week out, and it is a little spin on what we normally do so it’s quite enjoyable. Going into the weekend it’s anyone’s tournament which is quite exciting for the viewer and for the player alike.”

Fernandez-Castaño carded five birdies and three bogeys in his 69, a score matched by Horsey and MacIntyre, who went out of bounds on his final hole for a triple bogey.

Green made seven birdies and two bogeys to sit a shot ahead of Ashley Chesters, Hugo Leon, Kristoffer Reitan and Sebastian Soderberg.

French pair Alexander Levy and Adrien Saddier were at five under, a shot clear of Nacho Elvira, Anders Hansen, Richie Ramsay and Matthew Southgate and two ahead of Otaegui, last year's beaten finalist Benjamin Hebert, Lorenzo Gagli, Joakim Lagergren, David Law, Edoardo Molinari and Gavin Moynihan.

Filippo Bergamaschi, Grant Forrest, Daan Huizing, Kristian Krogh Johannessen, Rikard Karlberg, Oscar Lengden, Pedro Oriol, Wade Ormsby and Matthias Schwab came through the play-off at two under.
