Matt Fitzpatrick gets the message as text exchange goes viral

With four wins in 2026, Matt Fitzpatrick must be getting used to receiving a deluge of messages every time he lifts a trophy.

But this week some of his congratulations went viral as it was revealed he was getting texts from a seemingly random number.

The number belonged to X user @EgbersTom, who posted on the platform on Monday to show off his exchanges with the 2022 U.S. Open champion.

"God knows how he got my number," Fitzpatrick said ahead of this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Every time Fitzpatrick won, he would receive a message of congratulations but when he asked who was sending them, there would be no reply.

Ever polite, the Englishman did not block the number, believing it could be a technologically challenged member of his club at home.

"I wasn't getting annoyed at all," he said. "I actually just thought it was just some member of my club who was texting me and then I replied obviously asking (who it was).

"He basically just like would never answer. I thought it was some random guy that wasn't very good on his mobile phone."

As arguably the form player on the planet and a 2023 winner of this event, it's hard to bet against Fitzpatrick getting another message on Sunday.
