McLeod seals place on European Tour

Jake McLeod cannot wait to get started on the European Tour after securing his playing privileges by winning the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit at the Australian PGA Championship.

The Australian catapulted himself into contention in the season-long race with a first professional win at the NSW Open three weeks ago and he followed that up by finishing third at the Australian Open and securing a spot at The Open Championship in the process.

That top three also moved him to the top of the Order of Merit and a tie for 19th this week at RACV Royal Pines Resort was enough to hand him the title.

The 24 year old will now rest up over the Christmas period but is excited about the prospect of starting his European Tour career in the new year.

"That's where I've wanted to play for a couple years now so it's nice to finally get there this way," he said.

"I think I might take the rest of the year off, recharge the batteries, and I'm looking forward to next year.

"The focus is solely on Europe and I'm not too sure what I'll get into yet but I heard the card's pretty good, so I'm looking forward to it.

"The depth of the fields over there are a lot deeper obviously. It's going to be a good experience to see where I'm at as well.

"I'm excited to play in The Open next year, that will be cool. I'm not too sure what my goals are yet but just to try and maintain that card in Europe for the following season would be great."
