Spectator FAQs for the BMW PGA Championship 2022

FAQ

Tournament Format

*Date: *Thursday 8 September – Sunday 11 September 2022

Field: 144 Players

Format:

The tournament will be a 72-hole stroke play event.

The field will play one round on each of the first two days, after which the leading 65 players (and those who tie for 65th place) will go forward to the third and fourth rounds.

In the event of a tie for the first place there will be a hole-by-hole play-off.

Prize Presentation

The Prize Presentation will be held on the 18th green upon the conclusion of play

(Approximately 17:15 - 17:30) on Sunday 11 September

It is vitally important to us to protect the health and wellbeing of all players, staff, volunteers and spectators attending PGA European Tour events (the “DP World Tour”) and, as such, entry to all DP World Tour events will be subject to strict acceptance of and adherence to our COVID-19 spectator code of conduct (the “Code of Conduct”) and, if applicable, the latest Government guidance. *Masks & Social Distancing *

The wearing of masks and social distancing are not mandatory, but members of the public are welcome to do so if they wish. We ask that you are respectful of the choices of others in this matter.

Digital Programme

The BMW PGA Championship digital programme is free, and can be downloaded via the DP World Tour App. Click here to download the App. It is where you will find all the tournament information and updates, including the daily draws, course map, full event schedule and entertainment. There will also be DP World Tour App QR codes displayed as you enter the tournament and within the Championship village and catering areas and they can be scanned to access all the information you will need.

Information Centre

The Information Centre is located in the Championship Village. This is also the location for lost property.

Contactless Payments

There will not be ATM’s onsite. This is a cashless event. Contactless payments accepted only.

Welcome Pavilion

The Welcome Pavilion is the main entrance to the Championship. There will be a dedicated walkway to the Pavilion from the Park & Ride Bus Terminal. Within the Welcome Pavilion there will be the following facilities:

  • Information Desk
  • Left Luggage
  • Ticket Checking
  • Ticket Sales

Spectator's Etiquette

  • Remain still for each shot and do not move until all the Players in the group have played or holed out.
  • Kneel or sit down if you are in the front row. Consider other spectators when using an umbrella.
  • Do not speak to the players while they are on the course.
  • Please keep behind the ropes and barriers on the course and use the official crossing points.
  • Walk, don’t run, and obey the course marshals – they are trying to make your day more enjoyable.
  • There is no dress code in public areas.
  • Dress accordingly for the weather conditions. Sensible shoes should be worn. No metal spikes allowed.
  • Due to social distancing, spectators are prohibited from asking for player autographs.
  • Please listen to any public address announcements and follow instructions from officials and volunteers should they be necessary.

Course

Spectators can move freely around the golf course but please stay outside the ropes. Controlled crossing points, which are clearly marked by signposts and manned by course Marshals, should be used when crossing fairways.

Course Shuttle Bus

The Championship provide an internal shuttle bus loop, which allows spectators to move around the course with ease. There are pick-up/drop-off points around the course and they are situated as follows:

  • BMW Owners Shuttle 1 – BMW Owners Car Park
  • BMW Owners Shuttle 2 - Park & Ride Pick Up point/Welcome tent area
  • Stop 1 – & BMW Owners Shuttle 3 - Adjacent to 18th Green
  • Stop 2 – Adjacent to 17th Fairway Refreshment area
  • Stop 3 – Adjacent to 4th Fairway
  • Stop 4 – & BMW Owners Shuttle 4 - Adjacent to 14th Green/15th Tee
  • Stop 5 – & BMW Owners Shuttle 5 - Adjacent to 5th Green
  • Stop 6 – West Drive/Portnall Rise Junction
  • Stop 7 – BMW Owners Car Park
  • Stop 8 – Park & Ride Pick Up point/Welcome tent area

All of the above Bus Stops will be signposted.

Evacuation Procedure

If it is necessary to evacuate the site, please follow the instructions of the course marshals, volunteers and event officials in an orderly fashion.

*Celebrity PRO-AM *

What is now probably the most renowned Pro-Am in European Golf, the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am takes place on Wednesday 7 September. Spectators will have a front row view of not only their favourite golfers but some of the most popular celebrities at this moment in time.

The Pro-Am Draw will be published on www.europeantour.com on Monday 5 September and on the DP World Tour mobile App.

Practice

The official DP World Tour practice day is Tuesday 6 September and open to the public. It is also the final round of the G4D Tour.

The practice range for the Championship will be located beside the Clubhouse.

Putting green is adjacent to the 1st Tee, beside the Practice Range and behind the Clubhouse.

The short game area for pitching and bunker play is located behind the Clubhouse.

G4D Tour

The G4D (Golf for the Disabled) Tour will feature a minimum of seven events, culminating in the G4D Grand Finale in Dubai. G4D tournaments will be closely linked to DP World Tour tournaments – playing on the same course during the same tournament week.

Marshals

The Chief Marshal and team will be managing the BMW PGA Championship volunteer programme. The Marshals are extremely influential in helping to ensure that play runs smoothly.

The purpose of a Marshal is to ensure that the competitors are able to compete under the best conditions.

Many of the marshals have volunteered at a number of other golf events across the country and have a good understanding of the appropriate golfing etiquette.

*Championship Hosts *

There will be 120+ Championship Hosts in attendance at this year’s tournament. The purpose of a Championship Host is to Welcome and assist all spectators entering the Welcome Pavilion and to address queries/problems. The BMW PGA Championship is the European Tours’ flagship event, and we are committed to making it an unforgettable experience!

Volunteers are an essential element of the Championship. Championship Hosts are identified with ‘Championship Host’ armbands.

*Merchandise *

A wide range of Official 2022 BMW PGA Championship event merchandise will be on sale at the Official Event merchandise store and is located within the Championship Village and online at the official DP World Tour Merchandise website: www.shop.europeantour.com

Can I bring my own food and drink?

No picnics / picnic hampers allowed.

Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted to be brought into the venue.

*Public Catering & On-Course Catering *

There is public catering located within the Championship Village at the Theatre of Food offering a wide variety of food and drink.

The Village Pavilion is also available to the public. Order your food at the till and be served at your table. Afternoon tea can also be purchased. Located within the Championship village area.

*Water Refill Points *

We encourage you to bring your own reusable bottles as there will be several water refill points within the Championship Village, and on course at 5, 10, and 14 catering areas.

On-Course Catering

1, 5 and 12 Fairway, 2 and 10 Greens, 14 tee and 17 hole and Championship Village

On-Course Toilet Facilities

There are public toilet facilities in the following areas.

Championship Village, 1st of East course, 2, 5, 10, 14, 17, behind Putting Green, BMW Owners Car Park, Bus drop off and front of the Welcome Pavilion.

*Baby changing facilities are located within the disabled toilets

Grandstands

Sit and enjoy the action.

Free Spectator grandstand seating are available in the following locations:

Tee 1 Free Seating

14 Green Partial Free Seating and viewing deck

18 Green Partial Free Seating

A section of the 18th Green Grandstand has free public access on a first come first served basis, but it is also possible to reserve seats in this area on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Those who have not booked seats may have to queue for access at peak times.

NO SMOKING in the grandstands or viewing platforms. Alcohol will be permitted on the grandstands at this event. Spectators are kindly asked not to stand up on the stands during play.

A dedicated wheelchair viewing area will be positioned at the front of the 18th grandstand, back right of the green and beside the 1st tee.

Note: Please ensure that you are in your seat by 4:00pm, as ALL unoccupied seats will be released at this stage (including sold/hospitality seating).

*Additional Seating *

There are seating areas located in the Championship Village surrounding the food outlets, big screen, and exhibitions. There are also seating areas at each of the on course public catering outlets.

*Leaderboards *

There are digital leaderboards on 5, 8/11, 12, 15, 16 and 17. Big Screens on Hole 1, 14, and 18

*Championship Village *

The Championship Village is where it’s all happening off the golf course and where you will find plenty of seating to relax. There will also be a Giant TV screen so there is no need to miss any of the golf.

The BMW PGA Championship Village will once again be a buzzing hub of entertainment on the show stage, with an abundance of fun activities for the whole family, retail units and food and drink outlets ensuring that the golf course is not the only place where the action is happening. *Charity *

The Official Charities for the Championship this year are ‘Campaign Against Living Miserably’ CALM and the Tour ‘Golf for Good’. CALM will have an exhibition unit within the village located beside the Welcome tent and the Charity volunteers will assist with various activities at the Championship. You will be able to support the charity by participating in the following activities and 100% of donations will go to the tournament charities.

*Return of the ‘CALM Mega Putt Challenge’ *

A donation of £5 to enter, giving spectators three attempts at a 100-foot putt. All participants receive a Callaway branded golf ball and entry into a prize draw for a Callaway Light golf bag, which will be one bag each day, Wednesday to Sunday. Payment will be by ‘Contactless Payment’.

‘Campaign Against Living Miserably’ Chipping Challenge – beside Welcome Pavilion, at the rear of the CALM exhibition unit.

This is an opportunity where fans can hit balls out of the village onto the 18th green of the East Course. This activity will cost £5 per single attempt and payment will be by ‘Contactless Payment’.

*Inclement Weather *

Observe the leaderboards and big screens throughout the golf course for weather warning signs that will appear prior to inclement weather moving into the area. Spectators are advised to take precautions PRIOR to play being suspended. If the siren sounds, seek shelter immediately, avoiding the following:

Open areas, Hilltops or high places, Isolated trees, Golf buggies and Wire fences

Clothing and What to Wear

It would be recommended to wear casual golf wear. The ground is uneven and particularly under wet conditions the ground may become slippery therefore appropriate footwear should be worn to avoid injury. Please check the weather forecast before you set off on your journey.

Blue denim Jeans are not permitted in the Clubhouse or 18th Green Hospitality Pavilion.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not permitted in/on any structure, including outdoor balconies.

WI-FI

Free Public Wi-Fi is available for spectators throughout the BMW PGA Championship site. The main hotspots are situated in the Championship Village and on-course Catering Areas.

Phone Charging

No Phone charging stations. Remember to bring a portable phone power bank.

The Use of Mobile Phones

The use of mobile phones is permitted but restricted to dedicated areas only, where event signage will refer to them as “mobile phone zones”. Only in these dedicated areas can calls be made or received, however phones must remain on silent at all times.

The use of any cameras, computers and other electronic equipment at the Tournament Thursday to Sunday is not permitted other than with the proper accreditation. Cameras are allowed during the Pro Am on Wednesday.

Making or distributing broadcasts, commentary, news reports, data, results or statistics by any means in any format or media including any such by mobile phone or other wireless device is not permitted.

Cameras - Cameras are permitted ONLY on Pro Am Day – Wednesday. Cameras are NOT permitted on Match Days – Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Although mobile phones are permitted on all five days of the event, the use of the camera facility is as per the above.

*Bookmaker *

There are no bookmaker facilities on site.

Accessibility
Personal Assistants

If you need a personal assistant to attend an event with you, the European Tour Group offers a complimentary carer ticket to customers with disability who have purchased a ticket. To request a carers ticket please email ticketing@europeantourgroup.com

Proof of eligibility is required.

*Are wheelchairs allowed on site at the Championship? *

Wheelchairs and other motorised chairs are allowed on the tournament grounds however we encourage you to use Event Mobility should you require to use them. Golf carts are not permitted.

A dedicated wheelchair viewing area, will be positioned beside the 18th and beside the 1st tee.

Accessible toilet facilities are located at the public catering areas by the 1st of the East course, 14th and Championship Village. Wheelchair ramps are provided in all public amenities in the Championship Village.

Event Mobility Charitable Incorporated Organisation

Event Mobility will be providing a number of electric scooters (£30) and manual wheelchairs (£10) for hire by the elderly or disabled. The facility is located in Car Park 4 (Accessible Car Park available here and must be pre-booked) with attendants on hand to show you how to use the vehicles. You can book your scooter online at www.eventmobility.org.uk or by phone on 01386 725391.

Spectators who arrive via the Park & Ride busses, Event Mobility also offer a service to deliver pre-booked wheelchairs or mobility scooters to the Welcome entrance tent on request. 

Car Parking: Designated parking for Blue Badge holders is located at the front of the public park & ride car park and all park & ride coaches are wheelchair accessible.

*Is there a Public Crèche? *

There will not be a public crèche at this event.

There is a baby changing facility within the disabled toilet at the public catering areas.

Can I bring a child’s buggy/pushchair?
Yes you can. However please be aware of uneven terrain. Children should always be accompanied by an adult.

The ground is uneven and particularly under wet conditions the ground may become slippery therefore appropriate footwear should be worn to avoid injury.

Are dogs permitted to the course?

Dogs are not permitted on the course with the exception of trained assistance guide dogs, and we respectfully suggest that you do not leave your pet in the car.

Information Centre

The Information Centre is located at the top of the Championship Village near the Media Centre and also within the Welcome Pavilion at the entrance.

*Familiarise yourself with the location of First Aid stations and refreshment areas. *

On entry to the venue look for map board, this will help you find exits, key facilities and provide other key information.

Medical First Aid

Full medical and first aid facility is located beside the front of Car Park 4, beside owner's shuttle stop 3. Should you require medical assistance whilst out on course, please ask a marshal or event official who can radio for assistance.

*Lost Property *

Lost property that has been found can be handed in to the nearest marshal, volunteer or event official. All items will be delivered to the Championship Office at the end of each day. The Championship Office is located beside the Welcome entrance pavilion.

Left Luggage

There will be a left luggage facility within the Welcome Pavilion entrance.

Can I bring a bag / rucksack?
Bags and rucksacks are permitted at the Championship and there are no restrictions on size. For your safety, security bag searches may be in operation on entry.

Bicycles

Bicycle parking will be available on the left-hand side grass area as you enter Wellington Avenue (red entrance) onto Wentworth Drive. Barriers are provided, please provide your own lock. Bikes are left at your own risk, PGA European Tour accepts no liability in relation to theft or damage occurred.
