Ten-year-old Tshiamo Makamedi had a moment he will never forget on Thursday as he hit the ceremonial opening tee shot at the Joburg Open.
Tshiamo took to the first tee alongside Johannesburg Executive Mayor Dada Moreno with crowds flocked around the tee box but showed no nerves as he sent his drive away to big cheers.
"It was cool," said Tshiamo, whose favourite golfer is Rory McIlroy. "My heart was a little bit beating up.
"I love that ping sound, that is the shot that I like."
Inspired by his father Danny and with a putting green and chipping mat at home, Tshiamo took up golf in 2023 at the age of seven and has been a regular at events in his age group since.
Already playing the game his own way, he does not wear a glove and uses a reverse grip, inspired by South African great Papwa Sewgolum.
He said: "My favourite thing about playing golf is making a birdie, winning and enjoying yourself."
The youngster is certainly one to watch.
