Thriston Lawrence and Alejandro Cañizares still out in front at weather-affected Omega European Masters

Thriston Lawrence and Alejandro Cañizares still share the lead after day two of the weather-affected 2022 Omega European Masters despite being unable to finish their second rounds due to darkness.

Almost three hours were lost on Friday after play was suspended at 13.09 local time at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club due to electrical activity in the area.

First-round leaders Lawrence and Cañizares began their second rounds shortly after play resumed and they both managed to move from eight under to 13 under par before darkness brought proceedings to a halt at around 8pm local time.

South African Lawrence made six birdies and a single bogey in his first 14 holes, while Cañizares carded an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys in 13 holes before the hooter sounded.

The second round will resume at 7.40am on Saturday.

Morning starters Nacho Elvira and Marcel Siem were the leaders in the clubhouse, three shots back on ten under, after they each posted 65s for the second day in a row.

George Coetzee became the second player this week to make a hole-in-one on Friday after Aaron Cockerill achieved the feat a day earlier.

The South African holed his tee-shot at the short 13th using a six iron to win a new OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M, worth CHF 18,400.

Cañizares opened his round with a birdie on the tenth before giving the shot straight back at the par-three 11th.

He bounced back with birdies at the 13th and 14th before holing his approach into the 15th for an eagle to jump to 12 under and lead on his own.

The Spaniard closed his front nine with another birdie - this time from nine feet - to get to 13 under.

Another bogey arrived at the tricky first after he missed the fairway off the tee, and although he came close to bouncing back with a birdie on the next hole, his 21-foot putt hit the hole but did not drop.

After almost holing his approach at the fourth, he tapped in for a birdie there before darkness prevented him from finishing up on the fifth green.

Lawrence made five straight pars in the heavy afternoon rain before picking up his first birdie of the day at the sixth.

Further gains followed at the seventh, ninth and tenth before he bogeyed the 11th.

Back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th took Lawrence level with Cañizares on 13 under before play was suspended due to darkness.
