Turkish Airlines Open day two - What they said

Nicolas Colsaerts fired a brilliant 64 to move to 14 under and hold the halfway lead at the Turkish Airlines Open.

Here, we take a look at what some of the chasing pack had to say after their second rounds.

Eddie Pepperell (66, -10)

"I'm playing better. I'll always enjoy playing good golf whether I'm playing on the EuroPro Tour or the European Tour, it doesn't really matter too much. I just want to feel comfortable on the course and hit good shots. That's where I get most of my enjoyment out of the golf. It was perfect playing conditions again. I felt like my game was in good shape all the way around. A couple of iffy tee shots coming in but staying patient and not trying to make any silly errors. When I wasn't quite close to the hole on a couple of holes I had to two-putt, but didn't make any silly errors. The good thing is when I'm hitting my good shots I seem to be making the most of them. That's always nice. You generally tend to move one way up the leaderboard when you do that. Two more days to try to do the same. The way I finished to only be four back certainly makes the opportunity to win or catch Nicolas a lot more achievable over the next two days."

Kiradech Aphibarnrat (67, -9)

"It's always a good way to finish the last with a birdie and get away from the golf course. It will be sweet dreams overnight. It's a little bit closer to Nicolas but the way he's playing the first two rounds is fantastic. I'll try to out-drive him tomorrow. That's all I want to do but it's going to be tough. The next two days I just want to enjoy myself with the golf course. Really nice, beautiful golf course and with all the golf fans coming out to support, I just want to show them what we can do, entertain and play my own game and make myself comfortable. The last three months I was playing solid golf and really comfortable with the swing. The way I'm striking the ball is fantastic. I'm working with my coach and understanding what to do and I think it's working the right way."

Matthew Southgate (65, -8)

"My game is so consistent tee-to-green my results always bank on my putter getting hot and obviously that doesn't happen every week so it's nice this week. Every shot I hit, I give it my all, whether I'm shooting 65 or 85. I think you have to be that way, otherwise it's too easy to switch off. That's what the professional game is all about, it's about marking and finishing out properly. That's how I operate 24 hours a day as a pro golfer. All of us are striving for that improvement and bigger and better results. 28th on the Order of Merit is fantastic for me but I wouldn't want that to be the biggest achievement of my career. We push for more and more."

Matthew Fitzpatrick (65, -8)

"I just made a few putts. Made a couple sort of outside 15 feet which is always a nice addition and then stiffed a three wood on the par five, 15. That made life a lot easier, eagling that hole. Just played nicely today, gave myself good chances. Struggled on the greens yesterday. Caddie's helping me read them ever since, Jamie's done a great job. I've been gaining with the driver every week I've played now. That's really turned around a lot since about the Czech Masters. Had a bit of a team meeting with everyone just trying to figure out where we want to go with my swing and everything and looking at the stats and the numbers and that was a big thing that came up. That's given me much more chances from the fairway to take advantage."

Stephen Gallacher (65, -8)

"It was pretty good. I hit a lot of fairways and gave myself a lot of chances and when the greens are as good as that, you're going to see some putts rolled in. I'm pleased. If I got out of position a couple of times in the round, I managed to chip and putt well. The whole course is sort of about getting in position. If you get out of position, get it in back in position as soon as you can. It's a great golf course and in fantastic condition as well. The key was coming here to try and get into Sun City and Dubai and turn a garbage year into a really good year. You've got three fantastic events and when you've got a Rolex Series event with a small field you can go up places."

Shane Lowry (66, -8)

"I'm not that comfortable out there but I seem to be getting the job done. I hit it close a lot today and I hit a few bad tee shots towards the end that I wasn't quite comfortable with but I'll head to the range now and try and sort it out for the weekend. Eight under is pretty good for two rounds, I'm pretty happy with that and I'm looking forward to the weekend. I won't be watching him (Colsaerts) as much as I'll be focusing on trying to make birdies as much as I can. When there's someone that far ahead you just have to keep going and make as many birdies as you can and hopefully they don't make as many as they have the previous couple of days. It was one of those days, I got a couple of good breaks on the back nine, I hit a really bad tee shot on 15 and 16 and made par and birdie on those two holes. On a different day, it could be different but what pleased me most is when I wasn't comfortable, I still stood up there and tried to hit the best shot I could. That's all you can do in this game."
